When the Weight is on Your Shoulders

Jun 21, 2026    Pastor Karah Bradley

This message explores the weight of responsibility we all carry, whether as fathers, mothers, leaders, or individuals navigating life's challenges. Through the story of Solomon in 1 Kings 3, we discover a profound truth: God never intended for us to carry life's burdens alone. When Solomon faced the overwhelming responsibility of kingship after his father David's death, his first response wasn't confidence in himself but dependence on God. He asked for wisdom rather than wealth or power, and God was pleased. We learn three transformative principles: wise people ask for wisdom, they learn from previous generations, and they build foundations for future generations to complete. The beauty of this message lies in recognizing that our limitations aren't failures but invitations to deeper dependence on our Heavenly Father. Just as Solomon inherited both David's successes and mistakes, we too can break generational cycles and create new legacies. The temple David envisioned but never built became Solomon's mission to complete, reminding us that our faithful work today becomes someone else's foundation tomorrow. Ultimately, this isn't about perfection but about surrendering our need for control and trusting that the weight on our shoulders belongs to the Lord who walks beside us.
